The following are the characters of the The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy.

"Core" Characters

Isabel "Belly" Conklin - The main character, narrator and protagonist in the series. She is the daughter of Laurel and younger sister of Steven. She is known to be persevering, head-strong, sometimes domineering, and yet equally fragile. She has had a crush on Conrad since she was young, but her relationship with him proves to be rather rocky throughout the trilogy. This is further complicated when she finds herself developing feelings for Jeremiah, resulting in an intense love triangle between the three. She also holds a passion for swimming and the feeling of being in water, finding it peaceful, and holds a great talent for the sport.

Conrad Fisher - The eldest son of Susannah and Mr. Fisher and older brother of Jeremiah. He is known to push away his loved ones and keeps his emotions and feelings inside and rarely, if ever, expresses them. He’s rebellious, stubborn and infuriating a great deal of the time with his family and friends since they struggle to understand him. In the first book, he develops feelings for Belly after finally noticing her, but has a very rocky relationship with her. Despite everything, he sincerely loves his family and friends and wants only what is best for them.

Jeremiah "Jere" Fisher - The supposed golden boy of the Fisher family and supportive force in the family where Conrad is known to be the turmoil. He is a good friend to Belly and a loving brother to Conrad and deeply loves his family more than anything. Like Conrad, he falls for Belly in the first novel but allows his brother to pursue her first. However, he grows tired of burying his feelings and demands his fair chance with her. His character undergoes a dramatic transformation in the third novel, changing from Golden Boy to Frat Boy, after spending some years at university.

Supporting Characters

Susannah "Beck" Fisher - The rock that everyone seems to cling to. Even in death her calming force is referenced and used by all as they navigate through the different situations in their lives. She dies of cancer by book two, but is heavily remembered by her family and friends throughout the course of the series. She is shown to be very friendly, loving and compassionate. Her death hits everyone hard and life without her seemed near impossible and takes everyone almost a year to pull themselves together and to form a life without her existence.

Mr. Fisher - A man who is known to have his way no matter what it costs or who it hurts. He is Susannah's husband and father of Conrad and Jeremiah. After she dies, he turns to whiskey. He drove Conrad away after Conrad saw how badly he began treating Susannah, such as cheating on her and running away when she got cancer. He tries to sell the summer house in It's Not Summer Without You after she dies and is barely stopped in time by everyone. In the final book, he tries to mend his relationships with his children and makes an active effort to be a better person.

Taylor Jewel - Belly's best friend despite being polar opposites. Unlike Belly, she is boy crazy and shallow, though she gradually grows up and matures. Despite her differences with Belly at times, she is a loyal friend and looks out for her when it counts.

Laurel Dunne - Belly and Steven's mother as well as Susannah's best friend. She is rigid and desperate to have the relationship with Belly that her daughter had with her best friend Susannah. Laurel is also very stubborn, political, but loves her children and family dearly.

Steven Conklin - The oldest child of Laurel and older brother of Belly. He is best friends with Jeremiah and Conrad, considering them brothers. He also spent most of his childhood teasing Belly, but is shown to hold a genuine protective and loving side towards her when it counts. He even comments that while Jeremiah and Conrad were like brothers to him, Belly came first to him emotionally. While a supporting character, he spends a large majority of his time away at college during the series.

Other Characters

Cam - Belly's first boyfriend and the first guy who ever called her beautiful. He only appears in the first novel of the series being a summer fling for Belly.

Anika Johnson - She is Belly's roommate while at university. She and Belly grow very close to where she considers Anika to be her best friend, even more so than Taylor. Anika is shown to be friendly, patient and understanding as a person.
